Going to SBCC as an international student vs staying in France — need advice

I’m an 18 year old French student accepted to SBCC on an F-1 visa to study Computer Science, with the goal of transferring to a UC. I have everything ready — visa, housing, I-20.

But I’m having a major moment of doubt and would love some outside perspective.

If I go, I get a real CS program with a clear path to UC transfer and genuine independence for the first time. But there’s real financial pressure, and I’d be starting completely from scratch with no friends or family nearby. My biggest fear is the loneliness and how I’d handle it mentally being so far from home.

If I stay in France, I have comfort, friends, family and stability. But my academic options are less exciting — mainly MIASHS which I’m honestly not passionate about. And I’d have a lot less independence, still living in the same environment.

Has anyone been in a similar situation, especially international students at SBCC or community colleges in California? Was it worth it? How did you handle the loneliness at first? Any regrets?
