Does this happen often?

How many times do you do a mix that you are pretty proud of and satisfied with, excited to show it off on your portfolio and then the band says the vision doesn't match, it's too different from the rough mix (even tho it's kind of the same, just technically better) and drop you as their mixing engineer? It started happening a bit and it got me second guessing my quality.
