Spouse struggling with PTSD, panic
My spouse is a doctor (primary care), and was recently diagnosed with panic disorder and PTSD stemming from early life adversity and working during COVID. It has started keeping them from working, they panic at work and just cannot function. They’re seeing a psychiatrist who has prescribed meds, and two therapists, and had a brief psychiatric hospital stay a few months ago for suicidal thoughts. While that part has abated, they still are struggling to see patients. Their job has been as accommodating as possible, but it cannot last forever.
Have any physicians or other medical professionals here experienced something like this? How did they overcome it? Also, I think virtual jobs might be more doable for them right now, so I’d love any suggestions. Specialty is internal medicine.
Thank you.
