Has anyone received an MTA violation ticket even though OMNY confirmed payment?
Today I had a really frustrating experience on an MTA bus.
I paid with my credit card when boarding, as usual. However, an MTA officer got on the bus and told me I had not paid. Even though I clearly explained that I had paid, she ignored what I said and issued me a violation ticket on the spot.
What made it worse was her attitude. She acted as if there was no question about it and even said something like it was “too late” to fix the situation. I felt completely dismissed and not listened to at all.
Later, I checked my bank account, and the charge clearly went through, which is proof that I did pay. I also called OMNY customer service, and they confirmed that my payment had been successfully processed.
It also seems that the reader or machine used at that moment may not have worked properly, but instead of checking that, I felt I was treated as if I had done something wrong.
Overall, it was a very upsetting experience. I felt angry and helpless. It honestly made me think, “If this is how it works, why should I bother paying at all?”
I’m still trying to figure out how to appeal or resolve this properly, but the whole situation left me very frustrated.
