Does anyone else feel like their own doctor?
I’ve been through decades of advocating for myself and basically paying doctors just for them to either prescribe me the correct medication, to get me blood tests that prove what I already know, or for them to tell me I need to go to another doctor. I feel like I’m so familiar with processing diagnoses, prescriptions and actual medical treatment that if you asked me to try being a doctor for a day with no direction or training, I could probably do it pretty easily. At least I know I wouldn‘t gaslight people.
All this to say, what the hell am I paying doctors for, anyways? 9/10 times they tell me it’s “just anxiety” or that my symptoms ”aren’t anything to worry about.” Plus, as the years go by and I’ve become more and more knowledgable, weirdly, doctors have taken me more and more seriously because I know the ins and outs of their profession and the lingo they use, and that just pisses me off even more. We‘re supposed to pay them for their knowledge and healing but at this point I’m paying them copays to teach me what they put themselves in debt to learn in medical school. I’m helping them pay off their debt and in return they’re giving me information you have to go to college for.
