I'm starting to feel unsafe in my own home.
Today, I was eating at the dining room table, and I overheard a conversation between my mom and dad about my teacher and my IEP for the upcoming RST. After making a fairly reasonable complaint, she said this, and I quote: "I'm sorry [Teacher's first name] that I got you in trouble with your boss so you can't spread your little gay ways in your Catholic classroom, but [...]" Like every day when I come home and hear my mom complain, "Oohh, Mr. [Teacher's surname] is gay and teaching religion! Oohh, he shouldn't be allowed to teach because he's married to a man!" it makes me feel less and less safe in this house. Like, I cannot handle being in this fucking denomination anymore. It's too much, and if I'm going to live out my Christian faith, I am going to do it surrounded by love and acceptance.Crimson_Rat — 5:21 PM It hurts more because I know she "accepts" me as an aroace person, but I am closeted gay+asenspike to her. And when I put "accepts" in air quotes, I mean she said straight to my face: "There's nothing wrong with living that lifestyle." Look, I know people generally have good intentions when they say things like "when did you decide you were gay?" Like, I know they mean when I discovered it. But calling it a lifestyle in her tone in the context really told me "aro and acephobia alet".And the convo was supposed to make me feel better. It didn't. Looking back, it makes me feel more unsafe in my own home.
