Combat Patrol vs Cthonian Prospect?

This will be my first actual army. Should I invest in the Cthonian Prospect box as opposed to the standard combat patrol? I'd like to have a mix of infantry units and machinery, and I really like the earthshakers. Do they contain the same amount of points as each other?
