Why do you think the SG is less copied than most Gibson designs?

This question has been sparked by the Mods reminding everyone that this subreddit is for anything "SG Shaped".

But unlike the Les Paul, ES-335, Explorer and even the Flying V, there's not a whole lot* of "SG Shaped" guitars out there not made by Gibson/Epi.

What are your theories on why that is? It can't be about Gibson sending Cease and Desist letters, they'd be doing that for all their designs.

*The Polara and Viper are inspired by the SG but is clearly not trying to be one, they are being their own thing. Harley Bentons DC Custom is trying to be an SG, but funnily enough comes out more like a Viper 😝 Firefly seem to make their guitars in batches and seem to hope to sell out before the lawyers find them...
