AITAH for not telling about my elopement to a friend?
I eloped a few weeks ago and announced it on social media afterward. Before the wedding, I only shared the news with immediate family and a small circle of close friends.
One of my coworkers/friends was upset that I didn’t tell her beforehand. We get along well, but I wouldn’t consider us particularly close. We rarely spend time together outside of work, and she’s part of social outings that I usually hear about after the fact rather than being invited to.
She told me her feelings were hurt and now seems to expect me to apologize and put effort into “fixing” the friendship. I understand why she may have been surprised to learn about the marriage through social media, but I also don’t feel obligated to share such personal news with everyone in my life before it happens.
Am I being unreasonable for feeling that I don’t owe an apology? How would you handle this situation?
