Can i text a girl i met 1y ago?

Need some advice. About a year ago, my friends and I met a group of girls. I thought one of them was really attractive, but I had a girlfriend at the time. Now, a year later, my ex and I have broken up. I asked a mutual friend if the girl was single, and he told me that she had also just gotten out of a relationship.

A few days ago, I added her on Snapchat, and today she added me back. The thing is, we have a lot of mutual friends, so I’m worried it might get awkward if I message her out of nowhere.

What would you do in my situation? Should I just send her a message, and if so, what should I say?
