Possible TOS- relieved and terrified finding this out/need support
I am 20f. I went to the doctor today. I have had two MRIS in the past year on my left shoulder after a mostly random shoulder subluxation brought on by reach upward and back to plug a tv in on the wall. The first came back with basically nothing and the doctor told me to go do physical therapy.
Well I’ve seen two physical therapists and I haven’t seen any improvement. I have done exercises for all sorts of shoulder strengthening. I still experience pain. I can’t sleep ever, if I lay on my right side it feels like my left shoulder is caving in. On my left side it’s just intense pain. On my back is best but I have to be completely straight with my left arm by my side and head facing straight up. I have experienced a lot of numbness and tingling in my hands and fingers. The pain is mostly in my shoulder, but also radiated into my pectoral muscle, my back, my neck. I don’t have very good posture and I’ve always has slight scoliosis and my father has terrible upper back and neck problems as well which my mom just says is my genetic curse. For the past year it’s been hard to be active. I had a life threatening infection a few months before the initial shoulder injury and so I’ve just felt more and more weak since 2024. I have thought about getting genetic testing done to find if I have an autoimmune condition but my primary care provider refused to give me a referral. I’ve been in so much pain and I have felt like no one believed it especially family and friends. They all think I’m a hypochondriac. And yes I do have health anxiety, mostly because I got really sick when I turned 18 and because I’ve spent the past year trying to figure out what’s wrong with me.
Today I got the results from my second mri back. The doctor said I have bursitis but no tears just inflammation. I told him there had to be something else and he listened to my symptoms. He then brought up tos and recommended I get an ultrasound. And if it comes back abnormal they will send me to a specialist in Dallas. I came home and read about it and cried because I felt like someone had finally figured it out. I don’t know for sure but all of the symptoms fit.
Also I’d like to mention that it’s not just one side, my left side is obviously the worst but my right side has started bothering me over the past few months as well. I cannot hold my arms up at all ninety degree angle for more than a minute without numbness and pain.
And I’m also very scared because I’m 18weeks pregnant. I have had incredibly low blood pressure throughout my pregnancy as well as excruciating migraines. And I’m worried about my health and my babies. If anyone has had a similar experience or knows about the ultrasound or knows if the ultrasound results will actually provide any useful information that would be appreciated.
