I’ve had Lucky for about 2 weeks now and he’s just turned 1 year old. Just for context: The first 11.5 months of his life, he was apparently tied to a chain with just a silver bowl to play with and had minimal human interaction.

He’s adapted to living in a house incredibly well - he mastered the stairs within a day or two and literally flies up and down them. Overcame slippery floors like laminate and tiling etc. Listens very well (when not playing with toy/ball). Toilet training seems to be going great.

What I’m trying to understand is… even after 1 to 1.5 hours of walking and plenty of sniffing outside daily, tonnes of engagement with puzzle games and kongs etc. and time in the garden to keep him mentally satiated, he cannot for the life of him relax in the bedroom?

He can lie down in the kitchen while I’m doing my own thing and just relax, he can rest and just chill. But as soon as we go upstairs and I’m sat at my computer/lying on my bed doing my own thing, he’s constantly pacing, looking out the window, doing laps around the room and just cannot sit still and/or lie down.

I think it was a mistake to pull up the shoe box to the window so he can jump up and watch the world go by, people, cars, dogs etc. while I’m doing my own thing in the same room - he jumps up, jumps down, on and off the bed, paces around the room rinse and repeat. He could do this for hours. Again this is even with exercise and puzzle games in the day - the occasional ball throw in the bedroom, we play the same in the kitchen as well.

I’m absolutely fine with him following me everywhere but as soon as I take one step on the stairs he’s practically in the bedroom and cannot just relax and chill there with me.

Why can’t my Border Collie relax in my bedroom but can relax perfectly fine in the kitchen?
