Input Please (South Carolina)

I’m trying really hard to keep myself from freaking out right now, so please bear with me. Last night I was reading in bed on my iPad. Lights were off. Suddenly I feel something on my arm, I look down and my mind registers BUG. I immediately grabbed a tissue and smashed it beyond all identification. What I can tell you is it was not tiny, but not huge. It was a reddish, kind of rust color and what I could see of the remains were wings. It did not run away when I turned the light towards it. In fact, I feel like it landed on my arm because of the light from the iPad. I have a window right behind the head of my bed that was opened quite a while in the afternoon, early evening. I know that, without a picture, no one can really ID, but does this behavior rule anything out? I have not seen any other bugs/signs other than this. Thanks so much.
