Are older men irritating or are my social skills justawful?

I had a couple situations where people specifically older men just looked at me in a weird way or just said nothing.

One I was at the airport waiting for the flight guy says something looks upbeat in a way. Then sits across from me and beside a couple others that were sitting. I said I'd this your first time to this destination?*it was the island I said name of it. He just looks at me like clenches his lips and looks away but still looking my way he clearly heard me. I look at phone while he's looking around. I look back up he's kinda looking iny direction I say that's my family in the whole row behind wedding going to wedding. He goes the same look but like in a weirder way.

Another time I was in the elevator at work said hey nod don't get looked at. The elevator was really crowded and I said it's funny they only have a couple elevators working because I had to wait like 5 minutes. No one says anything I talk to a big guy that walks on at a floor and I tell him the situation because out of all the older white guys now one acknowledged me. So I said hire me I'll work on the elevator because this is lame.
