Siri AI is not Gemini or ChatGPT - it’s an assistant.

So I’ve been messing with iOS 27 DB beta 1 and the new Siri AI, and I think the easiest way to explain it is this:

Siri AI is not ChatGPT inside your phone.

It’s more like a much much smarter Siri that understands your personal stuff better and can actually do things on your device. Currently, the writing tools are not enabled in the beta, so you really can’t use it to generate any text in the old Apple Intelligence writing tools no longer exist. I presume this is a beta thing because obviously the functionality is much greater on the website where you can actually generate things in text fields. But the model itself will tell you that it’s really designed for looking through all your data on your phone and helping you organize your life versus creativity or heavy document analysis or anything like that. Even its most advanced model only has a 20 K context window, so there’s only so much you can do with that anyway. It’s really not trying to compete with the other models as opposed to complement them with mostly on device assistance for your life.

ChatGPT is still where I go when I want heavier thinking, writing, strategy, brainstorming, or “help me make sense of this mess.”

Siri AI seems better for stuff like finding a photo, summarizing an email, drafting a quick text, checking your calendar, changing a setting, or using your personal context to help you get something done.

So basically:

ChatGPT (or the advanced Gemini models or Claude?) = think with me.

Siri AI = help me do the thing.

And honestly, that’s probably how it should be. At first, I didn’t really like that. It doesn’t seem to think that much or reason that much, although if you really prompt it carefully, it can… But that’s not the purpose of it. I don’t need Siri to write a novel. I need Siri to stop acting confused when I ask it to find something, summarize something, remind me about something, or connect the dots between apps.

If Apple nails that, it could be really useful. So far, and early testing so good, it seems to do a pretty damn good job at that. And if you have a lot of context in your personal phone/accounts, it can do a fairly good job with that where you would have to dump all that into one of the other AIs to work on them. It just kind of has it

Bottom line… Siri AI is exactly what it’s labeled to be.
