Explain It To Me Like I’m Five

How is it that some sellers sell their items for retail price (or even more) for things that are still sold in stores online.

For example, I want a Quince linen shirt. From Quince it’s $42, not bad, and free shipping. Still, I like to look on Poshmark, though, both to try save money and also hoping to have less of an environmental impact.

I found a shirt, being sold for $42, but because it’s Poshmark, I would have to pay for shipping. So I make an offer, and they counter with $37. Ma’am! You do realize that makes it more expensive to buy through you, and if it doesn’t fit I can’t return it. I do realize she wouldn’t get the full $37, but still!

Like, when I sell stuff secondhand I consider how much it would cost for them to acquire it new because I want to be competitive with retail price (and honestly, with a great sale on the retail price).

I honestly worry more about the people who will assume Poshmark is a better deal and just go that route.
