Someone please help. I have no idea what to do. I really hoped that my Alienware would be my dream computer, but instead it has been extremely unreliable and has put my career at risk.

When I started my job at a NGO, they asked me what computer would be best. I am a remote sensing scientist and digital geographer. Generally, a gaming computer is recommended, even by NASA! Albeit, a desktop would have been ideal and economical to build (like I did ten years ago for school research), but for the job it had to be a laptop since I would be traveling while working and remoting-in to a desktop wasn't/isn't an option. And since I was the only dedicated geographer, I was one of the exceptions for a windows computer rather than apple, since windows computers run my software.

Thus, my naive and excited self recommend going with Alienware, and wrote a request for the most powerful Alienware laptop that was available at the time (December 2022). To my surprise, the budget was approved thanks to a small grant for the following $4,349.99 laptop!

Since February 2023, I have been in tech support and repair purgatory. Feb 2023, the laptop was first replaced. But then that laptop mother's board crashed 4 months later, and has been repeatedly crashed ever since. I have had 13+ dell cases, 5+ work orders with 5 replaced motherboards, screen replacements, keyboard replacements, memory, and more parts replaced.

There was a glimpse of hope that a my laptop would be replaced rather than just repaired, but then that got rescinded by a different technician who took over the case when I contacted BBB (April 2026,), and whom once again offered a repair for my currently dead laptop (motherboard crashed again). Again, I am hitting a wall.

Our NGO is trying our best to stay-afloat, and the money is just not there to get a new computer. I am using my personal 10 year old desktop, hoping that it stays alive while I try to get this Alienware figured out. If I don't get a replacement of this dell computer (and have it actually work reliably) work will never allow another windows computer.

Are there any employees of Dell out there in the redditverse that can help? New account created to keep work and personal separate.
