Unpopular Opinion: Karmelo Anthony Situation Reveals A lot of truths About Toxic Sports Culture and Juvenile Fighting Among Males in Todays Era
When I was in HS I did shot put and discus thirteen years ago and I remember the coaches telling us all that we had to stay in our school tent or area and we were not to fraternize with the other schools even if they were other local schools.
I aw several fights at track meets and I myself had an altercation with another dude who accused me of making him miss his discus throw and luckily the coaches stopped it before it got out of hand.
The trial really revealed how toxic high school sports can be. Austin coach testified that he basically put Austin in charge of the tent and basically gave Austin the greenlight to not let anyone who was on that team in that area. I have witnessed that myself and I think adult need to stop doing that especially at a competitive event when emotions can run high which is what happened that day.
The trial also revealed some truths about fighting among the youth today. The thing that did Karmelo in I feel (besides his horrible defense team) was no one could answer why he used the knife and not just fought Austin .
I personally think Karmelo might have been scared to fight Austin and get embarrassed on social media hence why the knife was brought out. We need to be honest about how social media does influence things like how teens resolve conflict.
Back in the day if you fought someone you just went your own separate ways and people talked but by a week later people forgot. However, if you fight now everyone has a phone and fight videos will follow a person for years especially if they lost. Worldstarhiphop still has fight videos from 2012 that people watch and harass people over.
I think this is why karmelo should have testified and the defense should have called a child or social media specialist to discuss these things. I am not surprised by the verdict but the trial revealed some things i think people cant see or do not want to discuss.
