6 Year Old OTTB diagnosed with kissing spine

Health/Husbandry Question

Our 6 year old OTTB was just diagnosed with minor kissing spine.

Curious if anyone knows of any sponsor programs that help pay the costs of retired racehorse rehab? We don’t have a lot of money (I know ironic since we own a horse) but that’s the reason we adopted.

She’s minorly lame in her right front and high right. We did flexions on all four legs. We did a temporary nerve block on the front right to figure out where the lameness is, and it’s low on her hoof, maybe coffin joint, or navicular. Our Vet recommends doing a steroidal injection there and right high hock sometime soon and see how it helps.

Then we did back X-rays since as usual, our OTTB was very reactive when the vet tried checking out her back and tummy. She’s got some minor overlapping in her spine (kissing spines) which she recommends first trying to treat with rehab and strengthening of her core before shock wave or injections or surgery.

We told our Vet that money was a constraint so she said she’d send us a price list. But she wants to immediately do:

- ulcer scope + treatment
- inject coffin joint and hocks
- shockwave therapy on her back in the interim
- send her to rehab for a month to horse swim

Anyone have any good advice on how to navigate all of this?
