Just a thought from a fellow writer/dev: is the editing hiring process too informal?

Hey everyone. I'm currently writing some fiction, but my day job/background is in software development.

As I've been looking into hiring beta readers and editors, I noticed that the whole process is surprisingly informal. Usually, it's just sending a DM, hoping the person's credentials are real, and figuring out payments and file tracking through random emails or PayPal.

Since my dev brain never stops, I caught myself wondering: would it be actually useful to have a dedicated platform for this? Like a specific place to find vetted editors/readers, handle payments safely, and track the progress of the manuscript step-by-step?

I have absolutely nothing built and I'm not selling anything. I'm just genuinely curious if this is a real pain point for other authors (and for editors too!), or if people actually prefer the current, more flexible way of doing things.

Would love to hear your honest thoughts!
