Kill 2 PCs and give one scroll of revivify

I kept reading about how some DMs have made Strahd kill 2 party members and then forcing the offending pc to choose who lives. In the end, he ressurects both but tells the pc who wasn't chosen to be brought back that he wasn't wanted. Now, I have a pretty angsty pc that likes to offend Strahd and Id love to try this if it works.

My question is this: Is this typically ran as a combat or a cutsceney type ordeal (since both pcs will be brought back either way)?
