Solotravel + 1 day at Disneyland w/ both parks and premier access

Personal Experience

Tickets to Disneyland Paris.

  1. I downloaded the Disneyland app and purchased my tickets there.
  2. I bought 1 Day ticket for both Parks (Disneyland Park and Disney Adventure World) - cost €195, and decided to buy the Disney Premier Access Ultimate pass - cost €118 - despite being a solo traveler. I visited on a Friday in May.
  3. Total cost tickets €313.

Travel to Disneyland Paris from Central Paris was quite easy.

  1. I downloaded Bonjour RATP-app to purchase tickets with Apple Pay. I would then validate the ticket when I got close to the barriers, and used my phone to pass them.
  2. I downloaded Citymapper-app and would plot my start point and destination and just followed the route there, and could see the time table for the RER.
  3. I took the RER A westbound from Châtelet - Les Halles to Marne-La-Vallée - Chessy (and the opposite route on my way back.
  4. Cost one-way metro-train ticket covering the zones 1-5: €2,55. Total for the day: €5.10.

Arrival time Disneyland Paris.
Unless you have Extra Magic Time access (for instance staying at Disney Hotel, Les Villages Nature Paris, holder of Disneyland Paris Gold ticket) which allows you earlier access, there is NO point getting there super early. I got to the main gates at 08:15, security took about 5 minutes. I could not access either park before 09:30 so just walked around the Disney Village (where some stores likes Starbucks were open) and went for å looong bathroom break. I was standing outside the Disney Adventure World at 09:15 where crowds had gathered, but the staff were great, and by 09:35 I was in!

Is Disney Premier Access Ultimate worth it as solo traveller?
Short answer yes.

  1. The pass allows you to get in the fast lane ONE time per ride (for most attractions) the whole day. You can also buy a similar One Access pass for ONLY one ride of your choice at an allocated time slot, the price varies depending on the time slot.
  2. The first 2-3 rides and some of the other rides I did not use the Ultimate pass in case I loved the ride and wanted to try again, and thought I would save the pass for more wilder queues. The single rider queues were only 5 minutes in the beginning of the day. PS: I did not try any rides twice as there was too much to cover.
  3. Being a solo traveller with Ultimate pass gave me such flexibility and saved me so much time. It is expensive, but worth it.

The rides I went on in chronological order (score 1-10) - Disney Adventure World.

  1. Ratatouille: L'Aventure Totalement Toquée de Rémy. Score 8. My first ride. Adorable. Cute. You feel transported to another world. Great for all ages. You might get very slightly wet.
  2. The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror. Score 10. Nothing gives you the fear factor of flying through the air as you drop. Greatest adrenalin rush without feeling a concussion. I would put the age range at teens and above.
  3. Spider-Man W.E.B. Adventure. Score 7. I should have paid more attention to the instructions, because I did not understand it was a competition and why my team mates were throwing around their hands every2here. It's interactive and you try to throw "invisible" slingshots with webs while wearing 3D glasses. You are a team of 4. Great for all ages.
  4. Avengers Assemble: Flight Force. Score 6. It's a great ride and is FAST. However I felt I had a concussion afterwards hence the low score - but adrenalin junkies would love this.
  5. Toy Soldiers Parachute Drop. Score 7. You can't use Ultimate pass here which is a shame, so this was my longest wait of 20 minutes. I definitely enjoyed it though, and so did everyone I was watching while waiting in line. The right amount of fun for all age groups (though theres is a heigh requirement).
  6. Crush's Coaster. Score 9. Loved this. However you have to get on and off while the ride is moving slowly - which made me panic a bit as I couldn't get my backpack untangled from my foot at first when I was getting off and decided to throw it on the platform before I got off and got told off for it - which I totally understand. It was also very warm and dense were we were queueing up.
  7. Frozen Ever After. Score 10. You're in a whole other world, and it's so beautiful. Felt magical. You get slightly wet on this ride. Great for all ages.

The rides I went on in chronological order (score 1-10) - Disneyland Park.

  1. Phantom Manor. Score 6. First I thought it was not spooky, but then I scared myself to believe that maybe one of the figures would jump out. Probably my least favourite ride of the day. Our ride stopped twice because people had problems getting on/off as the ride is continuously moving.
  2. Big Thunder Mountain. Score 7. A classical ride which was nice and breezy in the heat. However there were two times when the slide haults and I felt in in mye 30-something-year old back. It also got quite warm in the waiting area.
  3. Pirates of the Caribbean. Score 7. A bit to slow for me, but I appreciate the effort, it does transport you into anoter world. The queueing area was unfortunately warm and damp on a hot day. I got slightly wet on this ride.
  4. Peter Pan's Flight. Score 9. To be honest I only took this to rest my feet, but for someone who has a soft spot for London this was beautiful and nostalgic. The people sitting in front of me were blocking most of my view though, they were slightly too excited which was good for them, but unlucky for me.
  5. Buzz Lightyear Laser Blast. Score 8. Fun and interactive where you shoot around. Suitable for all ages.
  6. Autopia, presented by Avis. Score 5. So much potential and looks fun, but unfortunately the first car of our group was driving SO slow that it just caused the rest of us to break continuously, I was unfortunately the last driver. If it was better planned where you are able to speed up in your individual car I would give it a much higher score.

Indiana Jones and the Temple of Peril got closed at 5 PM without any reason being given.
Star wars Hyperspace Mountain was also shut down around 6 PM due to unknown issue.

Food and beverages.

  1. Before I entered Disneyland I grabbed a breakfast wrap and a big Evian bottle at the train station at Marne-La-Vallée - Chessy. Cost
  2. At Disney Adventure World I bought crêpe with Nutella at one of the stands 11 PM which was delicious. Cost
  3. I got ice cream at The Gibson Girl Ice Cream Parlour on the Main Street in Disneyland Park at 1:30 PM. I chose 2 scoops of Nutty Hazelnut and Vanilla topped with broken biscuits which was GREAT in the heat. The wait was about 20 minutes, but as soon as you got in through the doors the air conditioning saves you. Cost
  4. I ate late lunch at Bistrot Chez Rèmy at 3:30 PM. You have to get a set menu/meal plan, and don't have the option of just going for instance a main. I decided to go for the Rémy Menu which consists of a starter and main course for €45. As starter I chose the pear/chestnut/duck pâté with fig marmalade - it looked interesting and perhaps slightly off-putting, but tasted nice. For main I got the grilled steak, and french fries which came with a side of ratatouille - I wanted medium rare, but had to pick between rare and medium, and went with the former but slightly regretted it as it was difficult to cut through - however it tasted lovely and I was so full. And I had a glass of red wine (Cuvée Bistrot Chez Rèmy - Fleur de Roc - Sain-Emilion AOC for €8.50. Total cost €53.50. If you want to tip the waiters you need to carry cash. My waiter was very sweet and great!
  5. I had a reservation Walt's for dinner at 7 PM which I had to cancel because I was so full.

Other tips:
-Bring your own powerbank (but you can also buy/rent at Disneyland in case of emergency).
-If a hot day: electric handheld fan, folding hand fan in case your electric one runs out, thermal water spray to cool you down, cap, SUNGLASSES
-Next time I would probably book one of the Disney Hotels to be able to carry less. Carrying a medium/big back pack was practical in terms of the purchases BUT I did feel like it does get in the way of rides. I got worried one to many times that my back pack would fall out on the rides.

PS: Because of the Paris heat and all the walking (24 000 steps!) I was way too tired by 7 PM, and decided I could not stay and wait for the shows and fireworks. I fell asleep on the train back, but got off at the right stop. I have promised myself I will go back and spread the stay over 2 days while staying at a Disney hotel. I wouldn't mind travelling alone like this time, I absolute loved just doing my own thing at my own (fast) pace.
