Do you find yourself calling on the same students over and over without meaning to?
I've been teaching for years and I only recently realised how bad my own bias is. I consistently gravitate toward the same handful of students — the ones who raise their hands, the familiar faces in the front row.
I started tracking it manually for a while but that was painful. Curious whether others have found good systems for this — random name pickers, physical sticks, whatever works.
The things I was missing with most tools: actual gender alternation (not just randomness), and memory of recent picks so you don't loop back immediately.
Happy to share what I ended up using if anyone's interested — just didn't want to lead with that.
