Trying to move my family from the UK to New Zealand so our 9-year-old can grow up near our family
My name is Andrew, and I’m sharing our family’s story in the hope of getting support to help us relocate from the UK to New Zealand.
My wife has close family connections in New Zealand—she has two aunties and an uncle who live there, and her late grandparents were also based there. Over time, New Zealand has remained an important place for her family, and those connections have become a big part of why we’re now seriously considering relocating.
We have a 9-year-old son, and one of our main motivations is to give him the chance to grow up closer to his extended family. At the moment, he only gets to see them very very occasionally, but we believe having that support network around him—his aunties, uncle, and wider family—would make a real difference to his upbringing and sense of belonging.
This decision hasn’t been made lightly. Moving countries is a huge step, and we’ve spent a long time thinking it through and trying to plan responsibly. We’ve been saving what we can and are committed to contributing as much as possible ourselves, but the overall cost is still beyond our current means.
We are trying to raise £15,000 to cover the main relocation costs, including visas, flights, shipping essential belongings, and initial accommodation while we get settled.
We understand everyone has their own challenges, so we’re very grateful for any support—whether that’s a donation or simply sharing our campaign. It would genuinely help us take a step toward building a more stable and connected life for our son.
