Interview in San Jose office, CA
We just had our interview yesterday for my husband, and I wanted to share timeline and how it went.
Feb 24, 2026 - mailed documents
Feb 26, 2026 - USCIS received documents
Mar 10, 2026 - biometrics scheduled for Mar 24, we moved it to the earliest available day Mar 17
Mar 17, 2026 - biometrics appointment
May 1, 2026 - interview scheduled
June 10, 2026 - interview attended
June 11 - case status changed to "Actively reviewed"
Our I-130 case was strong (married for 4 years, have a kid, a house...).
I already filed I-485 for my husband 4 years ago when I was on a greencard, but he was denied (he has asylum pending), so we waited until I became a US citizen and filed again.
We went to the room together. Officer was asking him and me questions about our relationship: how and when you met (my husband forgot when lol and gave the wrong answer, so I corrected him, but the officer seemed fine, fingers crossed), when did you marry, do you have a kid, what's his name, did you meet each other parents, what's their names, why didn't my husband meet my dad (I don't keep contact with my dad). For both of us it was the second marriage, and the officer wanted to see original divorce papers, and grilled us both a bit on when and why we got divorced.
Then she asked my husband questions about his work (company/title), previous work in his home country, and then Yes/No questions.
He overstayed his F-1 visa (he is pending asylum, which is considered "out of status").
He also worked without authorization for a few months during COVID (when EADs were delayed for everyone...)
Officer didn't ask us questions from the new memo.
At the end she said "Hope you'll hear back soon". I asked what the timeline is, and she told "It's 4 months now" (seems a generic answer), and added "But I hope you hear back faster".
No verbal approval.
Now we're waiting for decision... it's been 12 years for my husband, I really hope he can get his papers sorted out, that will relieve a huge stress from both of us.
Good luck to everyone on this journey!
