New to rooted phones

Ok so I recently bought a oneplus 8 and asked gemeni for a step by step and ended up soft bricking the phone , I went through Gemini again and it recommended a msm tool to factory reset and this time i now I deleted the imei off the phone . I finally went to a phone repair shop and they said I don't need imei to root the phone and they would root it for me , after I get it rooted what apps do I need to install to spoof?? The repair shop said all they needed to do was install magisk and im good to go is that true?
