first of all, I enjoyed the comic. however my issue lies in it having no build up. we've seen mizuki in 2 instances, the first is before he's about to infilitrate the yokai, the next is when he betrays shion.

a decision he made after he grew attached to the yokai, except we didn't get to see a single thing. like i get it, the story beats are very predictable, he's obviously a good guy, but it still would've been great to see moments that lead up to why he could let go of his fear and made the decision to stand up for himself.

and when kiriko tells mizu toshiro is her father, she also says "sakura probably told you" so we didn't even get to see his reaction to this revelation.

and speaking of kiriko, it would've been really nice for her character if we saw how she took in mizu, showed him he still has good in him like he says. it's 4 years now since kiri released and we've had zero content of her forming and leading her own resistance group, how she cares for her members, how she stood up against japan's biggest crime organization while all her other family and friends (her mom, genji, hanzo) did NOTHING. but this is never shown, all we do get to see is moments when she's little to accompany genji and hanzo's story. which does quite literally nothing for her character

frankly i was really excited to see more of the yokai when mizuki launched so i'm just taken aback how we once again got NOTHING. which is a shame because the comic itself is really good.

tl:dr show don't tell

why are we speedrunning mizuki's story?
