Solo Travelling to Jamaica

Hi, so I’m 19 Female from the UK and next year im going to travel to jamaica solo! I’ve booked my flight but not my hotel/airbnb. I understand that there are safety concerns surrounding Jamaica, however because of cost reasons, I was thinking about renting an Airbnb rather than staying in a resort. Is this a bad idea? I’ve heard mixed reviews and I want to know what it’s like if you just stayed in a regular Airbnb. I also don’t like the idea of hotel because I feel like I don’t get to experience much if im just in a resort all day. What are your thoughts? Should I save up and stay in a hotel/resort or just stay in an Airbnb?
