Before Leaving Touya Left For Sekoto, In A Heated Argument Fuyumi and Natsuo Both Said Extremely Hurtful Things To Him, Being The Last Words They Ever Said To Touya.
This can work in pretty much any scenario involing Touya getting burned, but the one I'm using it for here is an au where the League become heroes. I really wanted to give Natsuo, Rei, and Fuyumi more characterization so it led to this:
There was a cold chill in the Todoroki house in those following weeks. Almost a month had passed since Touya’s demise and two weeks since mom’s outing to a mental hospital.
Fuyumi lay in her bed, moonlight pouring in from her window nearby. Sleep wasn’t easy to come by. Sometimes, she would go out of her window on these nights and make her way through the woods.
When she was deep enough that she was sure nobody would hear, she would sit on a log and cry. Fuyumi couldn’t let her brothers see her like this, not when papa was almost constantly out on patrols.
They needed a mother.
They needed a father.
Fuyumi was the oldest now. Years ago, when Natsuo was born, Touya told her that he would have to protect them both if mom and dad weren’t there since he was the oldest.
And now Touya was gone.
He was never coming back.
The Todoroki siblings would never see their older brother ever again.
“G-Good! We’d be better without you here!”
That was the last thing that she had ever said to her older brother. The very last thing. He died thinking that his sister and brother hated him, that they were against him. That they never wanted to see him again.
Every day, the argument replayed over and over in her head. Sometimes, she’d tear up in the kitchen when she was making her little brothers something to eat.
At school, it was worse.
Just yesterday, Natsuo gave a boy a black eye. The boy went on asking about how Touya died, ‘A hero,’ until the middle child could not stand it any longer and socked the kid so hard that his orbital bone had received a fracture.
The people of Japan believed it, the supposed story about how he had tried to stop a forest fire.
But the siblings knew, even Shoto, though he didn’t quite grasp the greater intricacies.
Touya tried training.
And he lost control.
Papa could’ve done something.
But he didn’t.
Mama was too exhausted to do anything.
And her mind ultimately couldn’t handle what happened to her son, nor another day spent with Papa.
And now? Fuyumi had to be her and Papa.
For her brothers.
That’s all that mattered.
If she could console them at the funeral, when those paparazzi with their cameras and stupid questions peppered at them, Fuyumi could take care of them. She would do everything in her power, no matter what.
As for Natsuo?
He sat up in his bed most nights, only barely able to fall asleep for a few hours at a time. Nightmares plagued him like an illness.
He’d see fire on the peaks.
Hear Touya’s screams and pleadings for help.
He’d run in, try using his ice, but it would never be enough to save his eldest brother. He would see Touya in the middle of those flames, his charred arms reaching out before finally turning to ash.
“Yeah, we don’t need you here at all!”
That was the last thing he had ever said to his eldest brother.
He would never see Touya again.
Ever.
The worst part is that he meant it.
Just for a moment, he meant those horrible words, especially after what Touya had said to Shoto.
He wanted to hurt Touya back in the worst way possible, he wanted to never see him come back. His eldest brother would constantly complain about dad not training him and Natsuo had been too blind to realize how feeling alone like that would make someone feel. To the point he’d wished Touya away.
Natsuo had gotten his wish.
He felt sick.
He placed his hands against his face, trying to hide the shame, trying to hide the guilt. But there was no hiding it.
He hated his father for making Touya feel like he didn’t exist.
He hated that boy who wouldn’t shut up yesterday about his brother.
Most of all?
Natsuo hated himself for being such a horrible brother.
Now Mama was gone too.
Papa was barely home, though Natsuo didn’t mind that.
It was just him, Shoto, and Fuyumi.
