Here is the complete list of the Dreamcast Era Sonic games. In Sega's view, this is one of the most underappreciated eras in Sonic history. Sega considers the Dreamcast Era to include Sonic games released during the period spanning the Dreamcast, GameCube, and Game Boy Advance, such as Sonic Adventure, Sonic Adventure 2, Sonic Advance, Sonic Advance 2, Sonic Heroes, Sonic Advance 3, and Sonic Battle. While some fans group Sonic Riders into this era, Sega sees Riders-Era as a spin-off Sonic as its own distinct style, so Sega include it here. What makes the Dreamcast Era special is its mix of ambitious 3D gameplay, memorable stories, unique character rosters, and the introduction of fan-favorite characters like Shadow and Rouge. It was also the period when Sonic transitioned from being exclusive to Sega hardware to appearing on Nintendo systems, with Sonic Adventure 2 Battle becoming one of the GameCube's most successful third-party titles. My favorite game from this era is Sonic Adventure 2 on the Dreamcast. The Hero and Dark story structure, Chao Garden, soundtrack, and overall sense of scale make it one of the most memorable Sonic games ever made. The Dreamcast version in particular feels like the definitive way to experience the game.
