Meds Ineffective During Luteal
I’ve been on meds for ADHD and depression for almost 4 months (specifically, Wellbutrin and Vyvanse). I’ve noticed that both are really ineffective the week before my period. Specifically, it seems like I get none of the positives and only experience the side effects (like stomach problems, headaches, and anxiety). I definitely feel a better than I used to during my unmedicated PMDD hell weeks, but it’s still a really hard time to get through. I’m taking a break from the Vyvanse for now because it feels like I’m just wasting meds and making myself feel worse.
I’ve been keeping a journal of this experience and I noticed that pretty much ALL of my regular medications are leagues less effective during my luteal phase. I do Ketamine therapy and during PMDD week my usual dose feels like nothing. I take Gabapentin and Diclofenac Sodium for rheumatoid arthritis; I can’t even tell whether or not I’ve taken my meds during PMDD week. Other things that don’t work or are severely lessened in efficacy are Zyrtec, Advil, Zofran, and Caffeine.
Why is this?? I am having such a hard time right now. The arthritis is a relatively new thing I’m working through and it’s soooo frustrating to feel powerless despite going through so much to get diagnosed and prescribed medication that can actually help. I feel so raw and edgy; I can’t get comfortable emotionally or physically no matter what I do. Currently just sitting on my couch covered in bags of frozen peas trying to decompress and fix my bad joints. Help!!
