I was riding my e-bike when a police officer swerved dangerously close to me, causing me to lose my balance and fall.

Other Civil Matters

Location: Suffolk, New York. For everyone visiting, this area is a strict no-chase jurisdiction. So, initially, the cop was following me down a neighborhood without my knowledge. I went through a stop sign, but he didn’t use any sirens or make any other attempts to stop me. I’m guessing he was expecting me to pull into my driveway or wait for me to wheelie, which I didn’t do. Then, he waited until we reached the dead end, and I saw him directly in front of me. As I tried to maneuver around his car, he attempted to block my path or essentially swerved towards me. This caused me to lose my balance and fall, and my knee is still in pain from the incident. Yes, I did cooperate with the police, but my bike was impounded, and I have to pay a thousand dollars in fines. Regardless, the cop came dangerously close to me, and I had to turn even more sharply, which resulted in another fall. I’m sixteen and really what I want to know is if I should take the fine, or if there’s a way I can bring this to court. I’m not too familiar with the law but i just want to know about this.
