Do corporates do this on purpose?

I am a part of a design department and our building, although new, is the most soulless shit I’ve seen. Just all shades of gray and white, not a lick of life or art or design. Just muted and dead. I feel sad just being here. So do they purposely do these atrocious spirit crushing interiors as a form of control or something?
