I think I hate my Phonaks
On April 2 I got my first pair of Phonak Audeo L90s. Have worn nothing but Widex prior. Less than a week after my fitting, I had to return them because one of the receivers failed on the right and the wire came loose from the mold on the other.
The right-side mold resulted in constant pain so bad I had to take it out and wear my old aids. I’ve also had two inner ear infections in the same ear. After all that, the Audio sent them both back and remade the right mold using a different material and made some size adjustments in case that was the issue.
Got the new mold yesterday and immediately knew it was way too big. She then made two attempts to grind it down in the office as much as she could before there was a risk of cracking it. It seemed strange that the mold could be that far off from the size of my ear canal. I told her I would give it a couple days and see how it felt.
Didn’t take 24 hours for it to start causing soreness. I take it out last night and inspect it and the surface of the mold isn’t even smooth. There are small areas I almost feel I could scrape off with my fingernail but it’s hard like dried glue would feel. The surface is just bumpy for lack of better words. Shouldn’t it be smooth? And I mentioned to her that the smallest amount of moisture like mild sweating from housework causes a radio static kind of sound in my left mold and she basically dismissed it and told me to put it in a Dri-Aid jar. In the middle of the day??
At this point I just want to return these aids, find a new Audio and go back to Widex because I never had this many problems prior to the Phonaks. But I wonder if I’m being unrealistic and my expectations aren’t practical. How common is all of this?
