What she saw beyond the Horizon
She was dancing in the moonlight,
as if the moon itself had come to Earth
to witness her beauty.
She was running beside me on the beach
through the cold night air.
She sang a song to me,
and her black hair danced with the wind.
She kept staring at me,
and I kept staring at her.
I could see in her eyes
that she wanted to say something.
Every time the clouds swallowed the moon,
an ominous presence seemed to creep closer.
She kept pointing toward the horizon of the ocean,
but I ignored it.
The night was too beautiful,
and I forgot everything else.
Then she said,
“I love you.”
I smiled,
ready to say it back.
But before the words could leave my mouth,
she collapsed into my arms.
Her face was calm,
like a silent sea beneath a moonless sky.
Tears rolled from her eyes
like fragments of her soul,
falling onto the black sand
and vanishing without a trace.
She was cold,
as though winter itself had embraced her.
Her wet eyes seemed to carry
the sorrow of the entire world.
She wanted to speak,
but her lips trembled with words that never came.
Again she raised her hand,
pointing toward something beyond the horizon.
I followed her gaze.
I saw nothing.
Then suddenly,
she closed her eyes
and took her last breath.
The waves grew silent.
And suddenly, she closed her eyes
and took her last breath,
her hand falling gently onto the sand,
still turned toward the sea.
