is tekken 8 beginner friendly?

I suck at fighting games but I've been wanting to get tekken 8 for quite a while now and just wanted to ask if the game is beginner friendly as some of the combo lists I've seen look insanely hard to grasp without a lot of time In fighting games, I was told they have a free combo setting but tbh that is kinda lame if it's true, I also saw last time I looked into buying it that some characters are locked behind pay walls, are these characters necessarily needed as I wouldn't want to be at a disadvantage, also I play on Xbox and would like to know what version of the game people recommend I should buy?
