Everyone's arguing about the teaser's VFX, but I think that's the wrong thing to watch. The real question for Nitesh Tiwari's Ramayana (Ranbir as Rama, Sai Pallavi as Sita, Yash as Ravana, Diwali 2026) is whether it lets Rama be the man Valmiki actually wrote.

Because Valmiki's Rama is nothing like the serene blue calendar figure. When he finds Sita gone from Panchavati, he comes apart, runs tree to tree asking the kadamba and the bilva if they've seen her, questions the deer, addresses the river Godavari and gets silence back (Aranya Kanda 60-64). Then the grief turns terrifying: he threatens to fill the sky with arrows and unmake the worlds, and it's hot-headed Lakshmana who has to talk HIM down. Later, over Lakshmana's fallen body, he says he could find another wife and another kingdom but never another brother. That serene, unflappable Rama owes more to Tulsidas's 16th-century devotional retelling than to Valmiki.

The other thing to watch is the Agni Pariksha. Valmiki plays it harsh (Yuddha Kanda 115-118): Rama receives Sita coldly, says he fought for honor not for her, and Sita's furious reply is one of the great speeches in the epic. The 1987 series softened it with the "shadow Sita" device; Adipurush rushed past it. How the 2026 film handles those four sargas will tell you everything about its nerve.

One detail I love: Arun Govil, the definitive TV Rama of 1987, plays Dasharatha here, the father who exiles Rama.

Will Tiwari give Ranbir the breakdown scenes, or reach for the halo?

The real test of the 2026 Ramayana isn't the VFX. It's whether Rama is allowed to break.
