How do I get back my fiancee of 6 years after I broke up with her 2 months ago. I regret everything.
My ex-girlfriend (we were living together) and I were together for six years. I chose to end the relationship two months ago, and I regret it deeply. Just two weeks after the breakup, I already felt like it was the worst decision I had ever made.
During these two months, we’ve stayed in contact. We snap each other occasionally, she sends happy pictures with kissy faces and heart emojis, and we’ve met up several times. I’ve helped her with some furniture for our old apartment since I took some things with me when I moved out.
The times we’ve spent together have felt really good. We’ve cuddled, hugged, and been physically close. She has even asked me, “What are we?” and “What is this between us?” But because I was afraid of pushing her too quickly back into something, I haven’t taken many initiatives myself. I was scared.
Over these weeks, I’ve genuinely seen changes in her that address some of the things I struggled with during the relationship. At the same time, I’ve realized a lot about myself and the mistakes I made. I understand now that there were many ways I failed to make her feel prioritized and appreciated. I often worked late, was emotionally unavailable at times, and looking back, I can see that we both stopped making each other feel loved. We were living under the same roof, but we weren’t really connecting.
The thing is, I don’t feel that way anymore. When we’ve met since the breakup, it has felt different. We’ve kissed, showered together, and shared intimate moments. Some of those things were initiated by her, some by me. Sometimes she’ll make playful faces right in front of mine when we’re lying together, and we’ll kiss and joke around.
Then yesterday I found out that she had spent the night at another man’s place. Apparently she has also spent time with other men recently. That hurt a lot because, from my perspective, it felt like we were slowly finding our way back to each other.
I’m struggling because there are so many mixed signals. When I moved out, I left her a hoodie, and she still wears it. She still has the very first necklace I ever gave her, a metal heart necklace, and she was wearing it when we met a few weeks ago. She still has her engagement ring, and I still have mine. She still texts me with hearts and affectionate emojis. So I feel very conflicted.
I miss her so much.
Part of me wonders if I’ve actually been too passive. There were periods where I didn’t initiate much contact, and then she would be the one suggesting that we meet. The problem is that the day after one of those meetups, she would sometimes be with another guy. I know we’re not together anymore, but after only two months following a six-year relationship, it feels very fast to me.
We’ve had deep conversations where we’ve both cried. Not necessarily conversations where we explicitly said we wanted to get back together, because I haven’t actually told her that yet. But I’m seriously considering telling her today, because we’re meeting tonight.
I’m looking for advice from anyone who has been in a similar situation. Has anyone experienced something like this? How did you handle it? Should I tell her directly that I want to try again, or should I keep taking things slowly? I genuinely feel like there is still something between us, but I’m struggling to understand what it means and what the right thing to do is.
