Name misspelling on ticket

My buddy and I plan on flying aer lingus on sunday to europe however his name on his government ID is “Alexander” and his name on his ticket is “Alex”. Is this a big issue or should he still be fine through tsa. The tickets were booked 3rd party so changing the names is only able to be done via the third party
