I include the photos of the lost that they might be better remembered.

The last image appears in honor of all the many unknown, nonhuman and human, who have suffered or are suffering in the Texas Pet Overpopulation Crisis. You do exist and, while I haven't the data to honor you individually, you are not forgotten.

Worse is on the horizon.

First, my group's Reddit issues continue and worsen. Rumor has it that Reddit considers us insufficiently conversational for their platform. I think I should mention they're also trying to weed out users who post repetitive comments, whether short ("Boost") or long. Other advice: use minimal to no emojis, and put photos and links in separate comments. (Thank you, u/Cheekygreek84, for the tips!)

More significant, there is an outbreak of New World screwworm flies in southwestern Texas. (For those unfamiliar with Texan geography, Houston is on the Gulf Coast, putting it in southeast Texas.) I keep hearing there is a national ban on nonhumans' leaving Texas, although I have yet to see any such announcement on a state or federal Web site. As the USDA would lead such a quarantine and the CDC be prominently involved, I am confused, but unquestionably the transport companies are behaving as if there is one.

Many rescues find themselves unable to move dogs north as planned. Sunnyside Street Dogs has dogs that should have left already, but the transport company has refused to move them, saying that Pennsylvania won't allow it. I could find no official evidence of this on the Web, but that doesn't mean it's not true. Rescues have started completely closing intake.

So expect multiple issues to increase the deaths at BARC. My fear is that screwworm flies will find their way into high-population institutions—hospitals, dormitories, shelters, prisons, zoos, and other such collections of warm-blooded beings. I admit the screwworm larvae could cause many longer and more unpleasant deaths than the ones BARC habitually practices.

The difference is, the screwworm flies have no alternative to living as they as they have evolved. Humans do.
