EA as a long term career path

As the title says, I’m wondering what people think about being an EA as a career in terms of growth (both scope and salary) and number of opportunities given recent climate, growth of AI usage to reduce tasks (and thus manpower). Is this going to be a type of career where if you don’t get into a higher level, more strategic role fast, you could see yourself out of a job?
