Do we have enough grounds to sue?
Hi! So I never really post on Reddit but I want some advice from an actual person, and I’m not gonna consult some ai over this question because ai tends to hallucinate anyways.
I wanna preface this by saying it will be a long post AND English isn’t my first language so some things might be wrongfully translated.
Two days ago, my friend (17 years old) had a stroke at school. The security at school (who are legally required to be trained in emergency response) in my opinion, didn’t respond adequately imo. Here’s some context:
At 15;31, we found out friend in the school bathroom. She was unresponsive but had her eyes open. Didn’t acknowledge anything we were saying to her. Security arrived really quickly, but was just kind of standing her.
We’re trying to diagnose what’s going on with her, we discover her right arm doesn’t work and she can’t speak to us, her leg is also not working. Security is still doing nothing !!!!, we tell them to call 911, they decide to call her mom first. TWENTY minutes later 911 is finally on the phone, security told them ‘there’s a girl on the floor, her arm doesn’t work, she’s conscious and responsive (she was not responsive, she was not acknowledging ANYTHING were saying. Not even nodding her head, in hindsight, she couldn’t really comprehend how to nod.) The security asks us about 20 times if we did any drugs, we didn’t and we kept telling them that. The second we’d found her we had assumed it was a stroke, the right diagnosis, security just wouldn’t believe us no matter how much we told them.
At about 15:55 the ambulance arrived with priority (flashing lights and sirens) they assess her, they do a couple of tests and hook her up to a monitor. They do not leave until 16:25. Thirty minutes after arriving. They leave without priority.
Arriving at the hospital they do a lot of tests on her, it isn’t until 17:01 that they decide to do the scan. Another 30 minutes in between. They FINALLY confirm it’s a stroke. At 17:37 they prepped her for surgery.
We feel both the security and the ambulance didn’t handle adequately but we’re not sure. There was 2 hours between us finding her and her being operated, mind you. It’s a 5 minute drive from where she was found to the hospital.
Location: Canada, I’m not sure if I used the right flair sorry.
