Copywriting Isn't Dying, How I've Upskilled To Make Myself Employable

Sharing Advice, Tips, and Tricks

Every week a green gilled young writer posts.

Can I make money copywriting, OR, Is a.i. killing all the jobs?

Yes a.i. has had a big impact on copywriters.

The most affected are those in junior positions, or people working for companies where management decided a.i. is the future and fired everyone.

Now I see a lot more companies hiring for copywriting adjacent positions.

The old world of catalogue, magazine, newspaper and television ads are dying.

There is money flowing into copywriting but it's online.

LinkedIn, Instagram, Youtube, Tiktok...

Sales pages, newsletters, ecommerce, and ads on social media

This is where are the money is, but you also need some skills like understanding the visuals.

I first ran facebook ads in 2013 and did that for about 6 years.

Then I worked running organic content and writing posts for ecommerce brands for about 4 years.

But after all that time, I now work with ecom companies as their creative director.

I know how all the pieces fit together, and I've found these jobs are wildly in demand.

Maybe there aren't many people who know all the aspects. But if you have a job, it's advantageous to know how all the pieces fit together.

I still haven't done much retail, but will likely start that endeavor soon, as my two newest clients are already in retail, and want to expand into online.

The point is, established brands are struggling with online, and their marketers don't understand the landscape.

They're all looking to hire people who know how the whole system works, what levers, and how to build out the teams to do it. They also want a.i. first which means you know how to weave a.i. into human led workflows.

And at the core of everything I do now, positioning, angles, offers, hooks, competitor research, is copywriting. If I didn't know how to write copy, I wouldn't be half as decent at the other stuff.

So I guess, copywriting is at the core, but it's the bridge that allowed me to do so much other stuff.

It's not dying it has evolved and I don't see it going away for a long time, because if you understand copy, you can become the conductor of the other parts.

Just felt like writing something, somewhat positive vs. claude has killed ________.
