Ai slop isn't just about the picture itself as a whole, it's a lot more about faking details or "reimagining" things that make the picture not as true to life as people want. Of course the picture is still going to look generally okay but it's when you compare it to a camera and realize that, for example, the eyebrows on the portrait that you took are completely different and faked from the subjects real life eyebrows. Computational photography exists on multiple levels and on basically every smartphone. However, too much AI reimagination and generation makes people feel like the phone is both pretending to have a good camera while just filling in the gaps with ai and they also feel like they are precious memories are being faked and ruined.

Generally I would say that the photos look pretty good overall especially in master mode which makes it a lot more true to life. However I do hope that they tone down on the computational AI generation too because I feel that too much AI generation completely defeats the point of photography as an art form and also ruins the authenticity of the memory you're capturing. What is the point of taking of nice photo of yourself during a vacation if it's all AI slop and you can get a similar effect by AI generating a picture of yourself in that same location or photoshopping a picture of you into the location (a bit of an extreme example but i feel like its encroaching on that territory just a tiny bit).

My thoughts on AI Slop photography
