Can men of Reddit help me understand this situation?

An ex boyfriend of mine and I had been going out for only a week. The first and last weekend we ever spent together I was in his kitchen grabbing a drink and he came and just hugged me for ten minutes straight. He mutters how he's always longed to do this and how it feels amazing and special to embrace a woman in his arms. I wanted to hug him back but I had a water bottle in one hand and the other hand on the door of the refrigerator. It was very awkward and I was a bit stunned and confused and just stood there. Then Monday came I got a text from him saying we should see other people. So I guess he ended things for no reason?
