How do we explain what we read?

I love this genre. But sometimes when normies ask me what I like to read or what I’m currently reading or some of my favorites I don’t k ow what to say. I just say “I like all kinds of stuff” and leave it at that. Hard to explain the plot of say “bug collector” or “and the devil cried”. Anyone else?
