Well-written fantasy with a romance?

Hello! I just finished Fourth Wing, and it didn't quite hit the spot for movie. It felt a bit half baked and a little bit cringe, even though it was fun. I am also reading the Farseer Trilogy by Robin Hobb at the moment, which I LOVE but it's very heavy and quite dark.

I am wondering if there is anything you can think of that's sort of in the middle of these two books? Dark, atmospheric fantasy setting (even historical maybe? the actual fantasy isn't that important to me, mostly there for vibes) with a juicy, exciting romance and some high stakes outside of the romance.
