Xenoblade Genesis Map Design

Meta

I feel like far to few people are talking about the gameplay implications of the world being shaped the way it is. No one really has figured out exactly what shape the world's going to take, but regardless of that the world being so weird means a few things.

For starters and most notably, the map. If this is indeed some kind of halo or cylinder or even sphere, a 2d map simply won't work anymore. You can't just flatten out a 3D object where all the important things easily overlap and call it good. The closest thing to that we could do is what we did to make 2D maps of the globe. But anyone who's familiar with charting course on those maps knows that a straight line on it isn't actually a straight line in reality because we bend the map in places to make it work. That'd become real confusing real fast for any casual player of the game. So I suspect we might be seeing the series first ever 3D map menu. Or else maybe they could do a layer system similar to XC1? But I feel that'd grow annoying fast.

The other notable thing that comes to mind is gameplay itself. If we're able to fly as that one cutscene and the fact we have land mounts suggests we might be able to, how will gravity work? What happens if we fly to high and end up closer to the land above us than the land below us? Is there going to be a threshold where we just flip sideways or upside down? To my awareness, we have not ever had a JRPG tackle mechanics like this. And it's something really unique about this game that I think not enough people are talking about!

Another thing I feel is worth noting, is that this exact system of the world folding in on itself is so important, they've made it the key visual for the game. The previous key visuals being Mechonis, the World Tree, and an aspect of the previous two games together. They all showcase extremely important things to how the world functions and where the story could be going. And yet... I don't feel like I've seen anyone mention anything about it all aside from "Oh yeah this is definitely artificial" which... yeah. Duh. You also don't get 6 suns so close together without them pulling one into another.

I just feel we should definitely be paying more attention to why things are the way they are. Them making the world folding in on itself the key art means it truly will be important. So it'd be cool if we all started talking about it a little more!

P.S.
There isn't a Xenoblade Genesis flair yet, so I think the closest this comes to is Meta? I debated spoiler, but I don't think you can call discussing the contents of a trailer a spoiler. If a Mod is reading this and there's a better tag for me to use please let me know and I'll fix it! ^^
