I sometimes hate r/thanksimcured
The original premise of the subreddit is something I can absolutely get behind, which is calling out people giving catch-all solutions for solving problems like disability or mental illness (thinks like "just be happy!" or "mind over matter!" or "be grateful you're not starving!" etc). I have absolutely heard my fair share of that as I am neurodivergent and mentally ill.
But holy fuck it feels like that subreddit has shifted into just mocking anything that does not specifically apply to them. Either that or being absolutely unable to tell when a joke is A JOKE and not pretending to be genuine advice. I hate the idea that literally everything has to be tailored to your exact mental illness or exact disability or else it's thanksimcured material. I recall seeing some pretty decent advice for OCD being posted there (I have OCD and it resonated with me) and torn apart since it didn't apply to other mental illnesses.
At the top of the sub right now there's a very obvious joke image about standing out in the cold when you're too tired to study, so you'll know what it's like if you fail and become homeless. The title mentioned depression despite the actual meme not mentioning it at all. Even the comments on that one are calling it out as a joke but still it remains up.
I think we definitely do need a place to call out people who believe you can just think your way out of depression and that mental illness or neurodivergence is just a mindset, but goddam can we also have some nuance here
