i made a browser fox that does my comparision shopping for me
Wanted to share this because it's the longest I've ever stuck with one project. It's a browser extension. You open it when you search for a product you want and it goes off, searches real listings live, compares prices, and comes back with one pick and the reasoning. Built it because I was spending entire evenings in comparison-tab purgatory and buying nothing. Some of the making, since that's the fun part:The first version I "finished" turned out to be the wrong product. It showed people simple comparison data and let them check — and watching real people use it taught me they wanted the opposite, an answer. Accepting that meant tearing out the entire UI I'd spent months on and rebuilding every screen. Deleting that much of your own work is a weird feeling, kind of grief, kind of relief. The part nobody sees: behind the search is a product database I expand every single week. I thought I was building software; turns out I also adopted a creature that needs constant feeding. Niche categories are still patchy, which is the current battle.Shopfox is free to use. Mostly I'm just proud the fox finally works the way I imagined a year ago. Happy to go into how any part was built if anyone's curious
